From the beginning of the process to the end, she was shrewd, well organized, detail oriented, not to mention just a kind and wonderful human being who took care of us, helped our home to look beautiful, positioned it perfectly in the market and ultimately managed to sell it to just the right person. She did all of this at the height of Covid when we could not even fly to help out. She took what was a very stressful situation and made it not just manageable but rewarding. Anyone who gets to work with Amelia as their realtor is incredibly fortunate. Her combination of market and business savvy plus warmth and compassion make her the very best. She really knows what she’s doing and works from a place of integrity and sincerity. I really don’t even know where to start with this review but let me just say that Jim is by far the kindest, most knowledgeable, and most trustworthy real estate agent in the city. This was my first time purchasing a home and I literally knew nothing about the real estate market. Jim was extraordinarily PATIENT with me and actually listened to my concerns and questions about the real estate market. I am a bit of a nervous person but Jim had time to talk to me even when I was calling him more than my girlfriend! He was able to find me a place that fit EXACTLY what I was looking for at a price that makes me smile every time I think about it. Jim was born and raised in the Bay Area and knows just about everything there is to know about the real estate market here as well as knowing just about every other agent in the city. This was huge for me being from the Midwest and really not having a very firm grasp on the market here except for knowing that it was pricey and that there were some neighborhoods I wasn’t interested in. On top of that my situation was that I was on a tight budget and was looking at some fix-me-up properties and with Jim’s construction experience he was able to accurately assess the condition that each property was in.
I certainly wasn’t looking at the most expensive places in the city but Jim treated me like a rock star the entire time, even PICKING ME UP AT WORK on my lunch break in order to sneak in a quick showing. The guy really does do absolutely EVERYTHING to make you a satisfied client and I can’t recommend him highly enough.
If you are looking to buy a place don’t waste your time with people who don’t know the market and don’t treat your purchase as something special, GO WITH JIM!

At our initial meeting, Jim exceeded those expectations with his recognition and understanding of our needs and his review of available property. We have know Jim since we bought our home in 2005. He was instrumental in that purchase! 9 years later when we decided to sell our home in San Francisco, we listed the home with Jim. When we had finished sprucing up and staging the home, Jim received the home from the stager on August 22nd. He heard the first open house on Sunday the 24th, then a brokers-neighbors wine tasting on Monday the 25th and then a brokers brunch on Tuesday the 26th and the final open house on Sunday the 30th. I moved my family from Central Illinois to the Bay Area in 1998. We wanted to live in San Francisco but you can imagine our sticker shock. My company provided me a list of realtors which led to meeting and working with Jim Laufenberg. Jim helped us find an affordable property (no easy task), find financing, find contractors and navigate the complex process of buying real estate in San Francisco. Fast forward a few years and Jim worked with us to upgrade to a different home in San Francisco and eventually sell that property. The market was red hot when we moved to SF in 1998 and many realtors would not have given us the time and attention Jim did (we certainly were not buying at the high end of the market). We needed to upgrade plumbing and electrical service in the property we bought. Jim helped us connect with trusted contractors for estimates – this was invaluable to us as newcomers to The City. Jim worked with my wife and I to purchase our first home in San Francisco (a condo). We were both young and totally clueless when it came to identifying good quality construction vs shoddy construction and were oblivious to the nuances that make for an ideal location, though as long time San Francisco residents, we thought we knew. We were fixated on certain neighborhoods and didn’t understand the need to base a location on resale potential. Were it not for Jim’s sage advice, we would have undoubtedly bought a poorly constructed property on a busy street just a bit too far from walkable conveniences. Instead, Jim showed us alternative neighborhoods and ultimately found us and ideal brand new condo in the heart of Glen Park (just a year or two before it became such a popular spot). His vision for what that neighborhood would become turned out to be hugely important. A few happy years later, with our first child on the way, Jim sold that property for us (in an astonishing 4 days) and proceeded to jump through hoops to get us our dream home (single family) in Glen Park.
